It was among the first five overseas Missions opened by Sri Lanka after independence. The Myanmar Mission was opened in Colombo in 1950.Quick Links

Ambassador Designate Mr. H R Piyasiri assumes duties in Yangon
The newly appointed Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Myanmar assumed duties in Yangon on 04th July 2011 amidst religious observances that were carried out by the Buddhist religious dignitaries, who bestowed their blessings upon the Ambassador designate.
New Ambassador Piyasiri, Ambassador-Designate of Sri Lanka to Myanmar is a Senior Minister with an illustrious career in Sri Lankan politics. He had held several high level positions in the Government. While speaking to the staff of the Embassy, after assuming duties, he stressed the importance of further enhancing strong bilateral relations between Myanmar and Sri Lanka which exist from centuries on the foundation of Theravada Buddhism.
He further said that H. E. the President has been able to secure everlasting peace for Sri Lanka and highlighted the massive development programme that has been carried out with the leadership of the President in the country, aftermath of the war, and that the citizens of the country has benefitted immense from the infrastructural development. H E the President has pledged through Mahinda Chintana an everlasting peace within an undivided, state. Today all Sri Lankans are proud to be living in a nation-state, which has preserved its territorial integrity.
He further said that he hopes to constructively work with the Myanmar Government, exchange their experiences in the area of culture and religion and inform Myanmar of the mega development programme that is taking place in Sri Lanka. He further highlighted to the staff that creating a conducive environment at work will lead to energized engagement, dynamic contribution which is the key to success of all the projects.
Ambassador Piyasiri is the 20th Ambassador to represent the Government of Sri Lanka in Myanmar since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1949.
