Step 1. Power off your Nexus S or Nexus S 4G.
Step 2. Boot into fastboot mode by holding down both Volume Down and Power buttons together.
Step 3. Once in fastboot mode, connect your Nexus S/Nexus S 4G to your computer via micro-USB cable.

As for the Nexus S ICS ROMs, you might want to give this NexusBeam ICS ROM a try. Although I still haven’t found a kernel to work well with it(believe me, I tried all of them), the highlight of this ICS ROM is that it runs super-smooth without any overclocking. As far as ICS ROMs go, NexusBeam ICS ROM is the smoothest ROM I’ve tried so far with no lag when browsing the web.
The NexusBeam ROM does come with GPU rendering, which might be why and give this a go as everything is working on this ROM.

16 CommentsLooking for that perfect ICS ROM/Kernel combo that will let you fully experience ICS on your Nexus S 4G as if you were using a Galaxy Nexus? Believe me, I’ve been flashing ROMs all day long but I think I finally found a great ROM/kernel combo with everything working including 4G WiMax, Bluetooth, GPS, camera, and even Face Unlock!
This is probably as good as it gets and the only thing I can tell you is to try it out as you will love it. Just a note, use an overclocking app such as SetCPU (Google it or get it on Market) to set your min to 100Mhz and max to 1.

Last couple days I have been guilty of trying out many ICS ROMs for my Nexus S and I think I may have found a good ICS ROM for it, the AndroidME ICS ROM.
I am not going to define a good ICS ROM here by judging its features and listing them but from experience of using these ROMs. And based on that, the AndroidME ICS ROM is one of the smoother ROMs on the Nexus S.
Of course, there’s more work to do like matching up the ROM with the right kernel to make it even faster/smoother but we will have that later this week.
In the meanwhile, go ahead and try this

Another great ICS ROM for rooted Nexus S 4G is the GummyNex ICS ROM, which also has 4G WiMax/camera working, ported off the GummyNex ROM off a Galaxy Nexus phone.
This one is very similar to the oICS ROM and gives you another option on ICS for the rooted Nexus S 4G SPH-D720.
We will be optimizing this ROM too but in the meanwhile, hit up the download links to try it out yourself and don’t forget to leave your thoughts on this ROM.

Looking to upgrade to ICS on your rooted Nexus S 4G? Well, here’s one of the first ICS ROMs you can try on your Nexus S 4G.
The oICS ROM comes with ICS Android 4.0.3 with everything you can experience on ICS including 4G WiMax and Camera working.
If you want to get ICS on your Nexus S 4G, this is a good ROM to start out with. I will have more optimizations like overclocked kernel combos to make the ROM faster but in the meanwhile, hit up the ROM files below.

Leave a commentDo you flash a lot of ROMs on your Nexus S 4G? If so, you will want to definitely check out TWRP Recovery for rooted Nexus S 4G, which brings 100% graphic user interface (GUI) to your recovery menus.
Instead of having to use your Volume and Power buttons, you can now do everything using your screen.
Installation is pretty easy, put your Nexus S 4G into Fastboot mode and flash away with fastboot. Download TWRP here For video tutorial on how to inst

CyanogenMod 9 is probably one of the faster setups for Nexus S on ICS right now, overclocked to 1.46Ghz with Matr1x kernel, if you know a better setup, don’t hesisitate to let me know.
This is a pretty “pure” AOSP ROM with minimal bloatware plus it comes with DSP Manager for those of you audiophiles.
There’s a lot of ICS ROMs out now so I will keep you posted.
For Nexus S, flash ROM, GoogleApps, and Kernel. For Nexus S 4G, flash ROM and Kernel.

ICS OTA update (official ICS update from Google) has been released as of yesterday. Those of you on stock Gingerbread ROM should automatically be updated to the new Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.0.3.
I got a bit curious so unrooted my Nexus S then manually installed the official ICS update. Surprisingly, I find the official ICS update missing stuff like NFC and Face Unlock, which worked fine on the ICS ROM by Brainmaster.
So what? I would advice not unrooting

14 CommentsCouple weeks back, we did showcase a beta version of ported Nexus S ICS ROM and Nexus S 4G ICS ROM but since Google has released the full ICS source code, we have a lot of great ICS ROMs popping up left and right.
One of the better ICS ROMs that I’ve been trying recently is the Brainmaster ICS ROM, which is available for both regular Nexus S and Nexus S 4G.

It’s not Ice Cream Sandwich yet, but this new OTA update for the HTC EVO 3D should still bring some very nice improvements. Very nice, indeed.
Sprint’s official changelog doesn’t reveal much, except for the software version 2.17.651.5 and a generic “security update” bullet point. However, at least according to preliminary reports in our forums, Carrier IQ has been removed, which should be a very good reason for everyone to perform this update. Apart from that, there’s also a new kernel that’s said to improve battery life, and the new Android Market included.
The catch? It’s not rooted yet, so . . . READ ON »

XDA Senior Member squadzone has kept the train rolling on the development for the Galaxy Mini with his simultaneous release of RZ Recovery and ClockworkMod Recovery. This gives users a more familiar recovery experience and makes the process of making back ups and flashing ROMs a little easier.
Both recoveries work perfectly fine, with the exception of the RZ Recovery being unable to read ClockworkMod backups. The feature list for . . . READ ON »

Thanks to discussions on the intricacies of application, kernel, and ROM creation; works created here truly represent much of the best that mobile technology has to offer. However, despite the abundant development knowledge, guidance in user interface design is notably absent. In fact, aside from a few secluded places on the net, finding clear and concise advice on graphic and interface design anywhere is quite a challenge—let alone locating advice on design geared towards mobile application development.
The lack of design guidance unfortunately manifests itself in some of the ugly and . . . READ ON »

Well, they’re official now, and both Motorola and Lenovo have announced that they would be bringing smartphones with Intel’s new Medfield SoC to market.
The Lenovo K800 will be the first x86-smartphone using Intel silicon and will be available in China in the second quarter. It comes with a 4.5″ 720p screen and the Atom Z2460 processor, running Android 4.0 with Lenovo’s custom LeOS skin on top.

However, it was halted after a week or so, but is now being pushed out again. So, if you were among the ones who didn’t get the update last year, you should be receiving an update notification now (I am, for one). If not, go to the settings and check manually for updates.
Below is the changelog, provided by Verizon (though it should be the same for the GSM version as well):

Despite these issues, the Flyer and EVO View 4G ultimately gained popularity due to their build quality, form factor, top notch aesthetics, and innovative HTC Scribe stylus.

The process is a little complicated and involves switching out a few lib files. So if you’re not confident with fiddling with the framework of the device, make sure you do some homework and get comfortable with it before attempting as messing up can damage your device. Be sure, as always, to perform a full back up just in case.
The process is otherwise not complicated, as Azdian says:
